The position requires a high school diploma, a current Medication Administration certification, CPR/First Aid, and at least one year in geriatric health settings, with long-term care experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current Medication Administration certification from state agency.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • One year of experience in geriatric health or retirement facility.
  • Six months of experience in long-term care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and administers medications to residents following procedures.
  • Verifies resident identity and records drug name, dosage, and time of administration.
  • Clarifies orders with licensed practitioners and notifies supervisor when altering the treatment.
  • Takes and records vital signs during medication administration when required.
  • Orders and re-orders medications and returns discharge meds per regulations.
  • Maintains a neat, clean medication room and cart, preventing unauthorized access.
  • Completes forms and documents per policy and state/federal regulations.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualified Medication Administration Personnel Summary:

The primary responsibility of your job position is to meet the daily personal care needs of residents with professionalism, dignity and respect following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares and administers medications to residents following established procedures.
  • Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.
  • Clarifies any order or treatment regimen believed to be inaccurate, ineffective or contraindicated by consulting with appropriate licensed practitioner. Notifies supervisor when making the decision not to administer.
  • Takes and records vital signs upon administration of medications when required.
  • Orders and re-orders medications and returns all discharge medications for credit in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Maintains neat, clean, and orderly medication room and cart. Takes appropriate precautions to make sure residents/patients do not have access to medications other than those prescribed.
  • Completes required forms and documents in accordance with the company policy and state and/or federal regulations
  • Other tasks as assigned
Education & Experience:
  • One year experience in geriatric health or retirement facility
  • Six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred
  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Must have valid CPR and First Aid certification
  • Current Medication Administration certification from designated state agency
