Job summary

Austin Bridge & Road is seeking a QCQA Technician II to join our DFW team. The role ensures compliance with quality control and quality assurance standards on construction materials and processes, supporting project teams and promoting safety in fast-paced environments.

The ideal candidate has hands-on construction materials testing experience and a commitment to delivering quality. The position requires night shifts and weekend availability, with strong report-writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in highway construction Quality Control.
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I.
  • ACI Strength Technician Certification.
  • NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing (Soils, Asphalt, or Concrete).
  • TxAPA or TxDOT certifications in asphalt, soils, or aggregates testing preferred.
  • Ability to read/interpret construction plans, specs, submittals, RFIs and change orders.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect materials, equipment, and activities to verify conformance with design docs.
  • Observe material testing activities and verify QC standards on project sites and plants.
  • Prepare detailed daily reports of materials and activities across phases.
  • Inspect field work during day and night shifts to ensure QC compliance.
  • Photograph ongoing activities for documentation.
  • Meet with testing firms and code officials during testing and inspection.
  • Participate in QC meetings with ABR and client representatives.
  • Review self-written QC daily reports and test data before submission.
  • Suggest modifications to achieve higher quality standards.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC Supervisor and Plant Manager on materials usage for designs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

has an exciting opportunity for a QCQA Technician II to join our team in the DFW area. This role ensures compliance with quality control and quality assurance standards on construction materials and processes, supporting project teams and promoting safety across all operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in construction materials testing, familiarity with industry standards, and a commitment to delivering quality in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Detailed inspection & verification of materials, equipment & construction activities as they are performed to verify conformance with the client’s construction design documentation
  • Responsible for observations of material testing activities on the project site and various material plants with verification of quality control standards during production to assure compliance with customer specifications
  • Detailed daily reporting of observations of construction materials and the multitude of activities performed throughout each phase of construction
  • Inspect all field work in progress during day & night shifts to verify the Quality Control Program requirements are being met per the client’s project requirements
  • Photo documentation of on-going activities
  • Meet with all testing firms & client code enforcement officials during the scheduled testing and inspection processes
  • Participate in Quality Control meetings with ABR and/or client representatives
  • Evaluate self-written Quality Control Technician daily reports, test data, & associated documents prior to submitting to ABR management
  • Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality
  • Maintain constant communication with the QA/QC Supervisor and Plant Manager to ensure materials being used for the concrete and hot mix asphalt designs are working and will work for its intended purpose
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in highway construction Quality Control
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
  • ACI Strength Technician Certification
  • NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing (Soils, Asphalt, or Concrete)
  • TxAPA or TxDOT certifications in asphalt, soils, or aggregates testing is preferred
  • Ability to read / interpret construction plans, specifications, material submittals, RFI’s, & Change orders with an understanding of how each correlate in reference to overall construction
  • General knowledge of construction material testing, daily reporting and construction procedures, with a strong background regarding pavement subgrades, pavement installation, & underground utility installations
  • Proven ability to be a self-sufficient leader for major construction projects as a Quality Control Technician
  • Ability to present and explain construction activity protocols during each phase of construction
Requirements
  • Level 1A Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Plant Production Specialist certification
  • Experience pulling 10 foot trailer
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and testing procedures
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in using computers and QCQA software for reporting and data management
  • Be able to work night shifts and weekends as needed
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer /iPad
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities
