Job summary

South Bay Solutions, a high-precision machine shop, is seeking a Quality Technician to perform inspections in support of manufacturing and new product development. You will handle incoming material inspections, FAIs, and QMS-compliant documentation in a fast-paced lab environment.

The role requires 1–3 years of related experience or an associate degree with relevant exposure, plus proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Or an Associate’s degree (Biology, Chemistry, or related engineering) with up to 1 year of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming materials per drawings, specifications, and QIP.
  • Lead and implement best measurement techniques for incoming inspection.
  • Review supplier documentation including certificates of conformance and certifications.
  • Complete material acceptance and rejection in ERP system.
  • Coordinate MRB activities and NCRs for non-conforming materials.
  • Perform and review First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • Create or assist in generating Quality Inspection Plans (QIP).
  • Monitor QC systems for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections per inspection plans.
  • Assist calibration and preventive maintenance with outside vendors.
  • Participate in quality system audits and report findings.
  • Support new product development activities.

Summary

The Quality Technician will perform a variety of inspection and quality tasks in support of manufacturing operations and new product development activities. Perform daily activities in the IQC lab including completion of inspections while meeting priorities. Assure compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete inspection of incoming materials including machined components, sheet metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit board assemblies, fasteners, and adhesives, per engineering drawings, specifications, and Quality Inspection Plans (QIP).
  • Lead and implement best measurement techniques for incoming inspection.
  • Review supplier provided documentation including certificates of conformance, material certifications, and special process certifications.
  • Complete material acceptance and rejection transactions in ERP system.
  • Coordinate MRB activities and initiate NCR's as required to ensure the proper disposition of non-conforming materials as required in the QMS.
  • Complete and review First Article Inspections (FAI) as required.
  • Create or assist in generating Quality Inspection Plan (QIP)
  • Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Perform manufacturing in-process and final inspections per inspection plans as required.
  • Assist in calibration and preventive maintenance activities with outside suppliers.
  • Perform and/or participate in quality system audits as assigned, report findings, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Support new product development activities as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Or an Associate’s degree (Biology, Chemistry, or related engineering) and up to 1 year of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Work independently with minimal supervision on routine tasks.
  • Experience with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook
  • Flexibility to work on multiple tasks with increased effectiveness.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to support and help others in the team.
  • Manages time well and will put in extended time as needed.
  • Understanding of basic statistical principles.
Physical Requirements:
  • Daily pipetting and computer work
  • Occasionally lift and/or move objects of 10-25 lbs.
  • Frequently required to move throughout the laboratory.
