Job summary

Job Summary

The QC Technician utilizes standard operating procedures and specifications to evaluate products throughout the manufacturing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Align with kp’s strategic compass and core behaviors: Focus, Accountability, Respect, and Urgency.
  • Lead by example – promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Complete a Risk Assessment at the beginning of every shift.
  • Recognise and mitigate safety hazards and quality issues.
  • Complete PASA audits as required.
  • Work closely with operators and supervisors; have daily communications; coordinate and cooperate with production personnel; follow all test procedures in the QA manual and test procedures located on the IMS.
  • Check in‑process and finished product from manufacturing compliance to specifications and procedures.
  • Upload orders in BDE once reviewed; release orders in SAP once VCM, 24‑Hour Layflat or any additional testing is completed and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Inspect product in the QC Lab, or in‑process on the Calender Lines, Extrusion Lines, Slitting and in the Packing area; record all findings on IP‑019‑1 and in the BDE. Keep all test instruments in smooth working order; verify thickness of product by using a ProGauge, TMI gauge or digital micrometer; verify width by use of a steel rule; determine gloss by using gloss meters; determine dimensional stability by time and temperature in percent; conduct any other specialised testing on products as needed; ensure calibration of test instrumentation is completed monthly or as required per instrument.
  • Visually inspect material for defects such as, but not limited to, air, pit marks, gels, fibres, carbon specs (black points), burn, friction or any cosmetic altering variables.
  • Use colour computer to determine light‑dark, blue‑yellow, and red‑to‑green ranges on product being run, as well as visual comparisons with standards in the lab on the Minolta Colourimeter.
  • Investigate incorrect or questionable information on work orders and roll labels; determine the problem and correct it; process all retain samples in accordance with Department Procedures.
  • Follow good safety and housekeeping practices in their assigned work areas and conduct daily cGMP walk‑throughs in the Plant.
  • Investigate customer complaints and enter evaluation information on the Quality Notification in SAP.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other Requirements
  • Night Shift only position; able to work 12‑hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays; must be able to work overtime as needed; two positions available.
Education and or Experience
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training in quality in a manufacturing facility, preferably in the plastics/polymer industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills – MS Office, SAP, BDE.
