Job summary

Astrix in New Jersey is seeking a QC Laboratory Technician I to join our cosmetics quality team. This role focuses on bench color testing, documentation, and adherence to GMP standards to ensure product quality.

You will perform routine and non-routine testing, collaborate with Production, R&D, and Quality, and work second shift with a differential. Training on first shift is provided to ensure a smooth transition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Hands-on bench color experience required.
  • Cosmetics industry experience required.
  • Ability to follow procedures and write clear documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine QC testing of cosmetics products and raw materials.
  • Conduct bench color evaluations, including color matching and adjustments.
  • Perform analytical testing according to SOPs and specifications.
  • Document, review, and report laboratory test results accurately.
  • Identify out-of-spec results and assist with investigations and corrective actions.
  • Calibrate, operate, clean, and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
  • Maintain chemical inventory and follow safety procedures.
  • Support quality, production, and R&D teams to ensure product quality.
  • Maintain records per quality requirements and GMP standards.
  • Keep the lab clean, organized, and safe.

Pay Rate Low: 26.00 | Pay Rate High: 26.00

Pay Rate: $26.00/hour + $0.50/hour second-shift differential

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM-11:30 PM

Training: First 2 weeks on first shift before transitioning to second shift

Weekend Requirements: Occasional Saturdays may be required based on business needs; Saturdays are not currently a regular requirement.

Position Summary

The QC Laboratory Technician I performs laboratory testing and quality evaluations of cosmetic products and raw materials to ensure they meet established specifications, quality requirements, and industry standards.

This position requires hands-on bench color experience and previous experience within the cosmetics industry. The technician will perform analytical and visual testing, document results, maintain laboratory equipment, and partner with Quality, Production, and R&D teams to support consistent product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and non-routine quality control testing of cosmetic products, raw materials, and samples.
  • Conduct bench color evaluations, including color matching, visual assessments, and color adjustments.
  • Perform analytical testing according to established procedures, specifications, and SOPs.
  • Accurately document, review, and report laboratory test results.
  • Identify results that fall outside established specifications and assist with investigations and corrective actions.
  • Calibrate, operate, clean, and maintain laboratory and analytical instrumentation.
  • Maintain standard chemical inventory and follow established chemical handling and safety procedures.
  • Support product quality, consistency, and troubleshooting in collaboration with Production and R&D teams.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in accordance with quality requirements.
  • Follow GMP, safety, regulatory, and company quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Perform additional laboratory and quality-related responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, a related scientific discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience working in a Quality Control laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on bench color experience is required.
  • Cosmetics industry experience is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow written procedures and specifications.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of analytical chemistry experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • 1-3 years of GMP knowledge or experience.
  • Experience with color measurement tools, color-matching techniques, and visual color evaluation.
  • Familiarity with cosmetic formulations, ingredients, and raw materials.
  • Experience calibrating and maintaining analytical laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience working within a regulated or GMP-controlled manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a laboratory/manufacturing environment and involves working with cosmetic products, samples, raw materials, chemicals, and laboratory equipment. The role may require standing for extended periods and routinely handling laboratory samples and instrumentation.
