Job summary

Burnett Staffing Specialists is seeking an experienced Quality Inspector for Fabrication on the 3rd shift in Sedalia, MO. The role focuses on inspecting fabricated components, assemblies, and weldments to ensure conformance with drawings, welding procedures, and quality standards.

The candidate should have a welding/fabrication background, be able to identify weld defects, and ideally hold or be pursuing a CWI credential, with strong attention to documentation and reporting in a fast-paced plant

Qualifications

  • CWI certification (or actively pursuing) required.
  • Minimum 2 years in fabrication, welding, inspection, or quality.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, welding procedures, standards, and specs.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated components and weldments.
  • Verify work against drawings, WPS requirements, and codes.
  • Identify weld defects (cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.).
  • Conduct dimensional inspections with precision measuring tools.
  • Review material certifications and traceability.
  • Complete inspection reports and NCRs; assist root cause/corrective actions.
  • Communicate findings with fabrication, welding, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Support ISO, ASME, customer, and internal audits.

Quality Inspector – Fabrication | 3rd Shift Location: Sedalia, MO Schedule: 3rd Shift Position Type: Full-Time Reports To: QA/QC Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Quality Inspector to support a growing industrial manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for inspecting fabricated components, assemblies, and weldments to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and applicable quality standards. The ideal candidate has a strong fabrication/welding background, can confidently identify weld defects and dimensional issues, and holds a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential or is actively working toward certification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated components, assemblies, and weldments.
  • Verify work against engineering drawings, work instructions, WPS requirements, and applicable codes/standards.
  • Perform visual weld inspections and identify cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, and other weld defects.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Review material certifications, heat numbers, and material traceability.
  • Complete inspection reports, travelers, and other required quality documentation.
  • Generate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and assist with root cause and corrective action activities.
  • Communicate inspection findings with fabrication, welding, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Support ISO, ASME, customer, and internal audits.
  • Verify calibration status of inspection and measuring equipment.
  • Maintain an organized inspection area and follow established safety and quality procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • CWI certification required OR actively working toward CWI certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant industrial fabrication, welding, inspection, or quality experience.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and welding inspection practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
  • Experience interpreting P&IDs, fabrication drawings, WPSs, standards, and specifications.
  • Experience independently performing Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) surveillance.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality system.
  • Familiarity with ASME and AWS standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
