Job summary

TrueNorth Steel in Billings, MT is seeking a QC Inspector 2 to ensure materials and workmanship meet contract requirements and applicable standards. You will inspect welds, coatings, base materials, and completed parts, documenting non-conformances and coordinating with site management for remedies.

The role requires knowledge of welding inspection and related standards, attention to detail, and dependable attendance. Shift is Mon-Thu with overtime as needed; full benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three years welding experience, or equivalent training in manufacturing/structural steel.
• Knowledge of AWS, City of LA, API, UL, or STI standards.

Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
• Inspect materials and finished goods to ensure they meet customer requirements and/or contract specifications, including welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, layout work and coatings.
• Review welding specs and/or requirements for each project and work with team to solve fabrication challenges.
• Document and segregate non-conforming fabricated material and workmanship.
• Review and work with site management & shop supervisor to address remedies for non-conformances and their prevention.
• Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per site.
• Ensure all inspection and welding equipment maintains current calibration and verification and pre-qualifications for bolt, as applicable per site.
• Understand and support company Quality Management Systems.
• Willing to work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.
• Prompt and dependable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned

POSITION:QC Inspector 2

SHIFT:Monday - Thursday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm (OT as needed Friday/Saturday)

PAY RATE: $28.06 - $31+ an hour DOE (Depending on Experience) + Full Benefits Package

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

• Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
• Ensure that all materials and workmanship are completed in accordance with UL, STI, API, AWS, AISC, or City of LA standards, drawings and specifications, as applicable per site.
• Inspect materials and finished goods to ensure they meet customer requirements and/or contract specifications, including but not limited to checking welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, layout work and coatings.
• General knowledge of coatings inspection including blast and paint inspections.
• Review welding specs and/or requirements for each project and work with team to solve fabrication challenges.
• Document and segregate non-conforming fabricated material and workmanship.
• Review and work with site management & shop supervisor to address remedies for non-conformances and their prevention.
• Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per site.
• Ensure all inspection and welding equipment maintains current calibration and verification and pre-qualifications for bolt, as applicable per site.
• Ensure proper bolting and pre-qualification are completed per contract requirements, as applicable per site.
• Understand and support company Quality Management Systems.
• Willing to work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIE

• Complete course requirements for Quality Control Welding Inspectors.
• Any applicable standards knowledge such as AWS, City of LA, API, UL, or STI.
• Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading and contract documents, when applicable
• Leadership skills to motivate co-workers to quality workmanship.
• Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
• Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENC

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three years welding experience, or equivalent training in manufacturing/structural steel, Quality Control combination
