Job summary

Hutco, Inc. seeks Level II NDT Inspectors with MT and PT expertise for Newport News Shipbuilding. Candidates must hold Level II qualifications and recent inspection experience in MT/PT methods.

Inspectors work in a shop environment, inspecting welds and documenting results. Schedule is Mon–Fri with potential extended shifts; pay is $36.00/hour plus $120 per diem for qualifying individuals, at Hutco Portsmouth branch.

• Minimum 4 years of documented, continuous experience as a certified inspector.

• Perform MT inspections on structural welds in a shop environment.
• Record and analyze inspection results with applicable NDT equipment.
• Complete vision and safety examinations as required for assignment.

Position: NDT Inspector – MT/PT Level II
Job Location: Newport News, VA
Hutco Branch: Portsmouth
Rate of Pay:$36.00 per hour + 120.00 Pier diem for those who qualify

DESCRIPTION

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Level II NDT Inspectors specializing in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) for work at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Candidates must possess documented Level II qualifications/certifications and current inspection experience in the applicable NDT method.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Documented Level II qualification/certification meeting ASNT SNT-TC-1A, 2001 Edition or later
• Minimum 4 years of documented, continuous experience as a certified inspector in the applicable inspection method
• Must have performed inspections in the applicable method within the past 9 months
• Must have passed applicable general theory, procedure-specific, and practical examinations
• Must have demonstrated the ability to operate applicable NDT equipment and properly record and analyze inspection results
• Must have passed a Jaeger 1 visual acuity examination at not less than 12 inches within the last year
• MT Level II inspectors must have passed a vision examination demonstrating the ability to distinguish between various colors
• Current certification documentation must include applicable training and experience records, examination results, and vision-test records
• Certification records must be available for the current and preceding 3-year certification period
• Additional qualification, practical, and vision examinations will be administered by Newport News
• Must be familiar with applicable OSHA regulations for the shipbuilding industry

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Inspectors will primarily work in a shop environment performing MT inspections on structural welds.

Candidates must be able to:

• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Climb vertical ladders
• Crawl and work in tanks and confined spaces
• Work safely at heights
• Wear required fall-protection equipment
• Be medically cleared, trained, and qualified for required respirator use
• Work in demanding environmental conditions, including varying temperature and humidity

Candidates will be tested and must successfully complete a practical examination demonstrating proficiency in each applicable NDT inspection method.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday: 6:30 AM-3:00 PM
Saturday-Sunday: 6:00 AM-2:30 PM

Work of up to 12 hours per day may be available at the discretion of the individual supervisor.

REQUIRED SAFETY QUALIFICATIONS

Required safety training and/or medical clearance includes:

• Confined Space Entry
• Respirator training, qualification, medical clearance, and fit testing
• Fall Protection / Full Body Harness
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Hearing Protection
• Audiometric Testing
• Applicable OSHA/ANSI-compliant safety requirements
