Job summary

APPLIED OPTOELECTRONICS INC is seeking a Quality Control Engineer to support manufacturing operations in Sugar Land, TX. You will oversee IPQC and OQC, analyze data, and drive corrective actions to improve yield and minimize customer returns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • 1 year+ experience in optoelectronics, semiconductor, electronics, photonics, or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with data analysis software and systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and TL 9000 quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plans, FAI, CAPA, 8D, RCA, SPC, AQL.
  • Bilingual in Mandarin is a plus.
  • Six Sigma/Lean Sigma is a plus.

We are seeking a Quality Control Engineer to support manufacturing operations by ensuring products and processes comply with established specifications, quality standards, procedures, customer requirements, and Quality Management System requirements. The Quality Control Engineer will oversee IPQC and OQC activities, monitor product and process quality, analyze quality data and trends, control nonconforming products, and coordinate root cause investigations and corrective actions. This role will also support the development and improvement of inspection methods, acceptance criteria, quality procedures, and documentation while working closely with cross-functional teams to improve yield, reduce defects, prevent quality escapes, and minimize customer returns.

Job Duties

Inspection and Testing: Conduct and oversee IPQC and OQC inspections to ensure products meet specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. Identify nonconforming products and initiate containment actions.

Quality Control Systems: Develop and improve inspection methods, acceptance criteria, sampling plans, and quality control procedures to ensure effective product quality control.

Data Analysis: Analyze inspection results, defect and yield data, and quality trends to identify root causes and improvement opportunities using appropriate quality tools.

Nonconforming Product and Corrective Action: Control nonconforming products and coordinate containment, root cause analysis, disposition, and corrective actions. Verify effectiveness to prevent recurrence.

Compliance: Ensure products and processes comply with specifications, SOPs, Work Instructions, customer requirements, and applicable Quality Management System requirements.

Documentation: Maintain quality records and support the development and revision of inspection criteria, SOPs, Work Instructions, QC Flow Charts, and Control Plans.

Quality Improvement: Lead and support quality improvement activities to improve yield, reduce defects, prevent quality escapes, and minimize customer returns.

Training: Provide quality guidance and training to QC inspectors and production teams on inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and quality requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Production, Engineering, R&D, and other teams to investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.

Other Duties: Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field preferred Manufacturing Engineering, Material Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Semiconductor, Physics, etc.
  • 1 year+ experience of experience in optoelectronics, semiconductor, electronics, photonics, or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with data analysis software and systems.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, regulations, quality control and production quality control is requirements

Knowledge of ISO 9001 and TL 9000 Quality Management Systems

Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plans, FAI, CAPA, 8D, RCA, SPC, AQL, and statistical sampling methods.

Multi-tasking and attention to detail

Bilingual in Mandarin is a plus

Location

This position will be on-site based in Sugar Land, Texas.
