Overview
The Quality Control Engineer is responsible for implementing and maintaining Elford’s quality assurance and control program across our projects. This role ensures that all work meets Specifications, Elford standards & policy, industry standards, and client expectations.
This position could be home-office based with daily visits to multiple jobsites or could be 100% jobsite based (single or multiple) depending on project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project-specific Quality Control Plan in compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Perform drawing and specification constructability and quality reviews.
- Conduct and document proactive QAQC actions such as pre-installation meetings, first work inspections, material verifications, benchmarks, mock-ups, etc. to ensure materials, workmanship, and installation methods meet approved specifications.
- Perform field quality control activities such as field inspections and punch lists.
- Review submittals for quality compliance.
- Ensure proper implementation and documentation of onsite testing and inspections.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and detailed quality records, including inspection reports, test results, and deficiency logs within the Autodesk Construction Cloud Platform.
- Track and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and quality-related closeout documents.
- Prepare quality-related reports for project management, owners, and regulatory agencies as required.
- Work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure quality requirements are understood and met.
- Coordinate with third-party inspectors, testing agencies, and commissioning authorities.
- Support project managers and superintendents in resolving quality-related issues promptly.
- Prepare QAQC Reports for senior leadership’s review.
- Identify recurring quality issues and recommend process improvements.
- Assist in training field personnel and subcontractors on quality control procedures and best practices.
- Participate in project closeout reviews and lessons-learned sessions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field is preferred, but not required.
- 3+ years of quality control experience in commercial construction, preferably with a general contractor/construction manager.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and industry standards (ICC, ASTM, ACI, etc.).
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and construction project management software. Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, OpenSpace, PlanGrid, and Bluebeam is particularly helpful.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, CCQMP, CCQM, CQM-C, or LEED accreditation are preferred but not required.
- Building envelope expertise (Certifications such as BESI, NEBB, etc. are preferred, but not required).
