Job summary

Pilgrim’s in the United States is seeking a Quality Assurance laboratory technician to perform routine chemical analyses, calibrate instruments, and record results under supervision. The role involves using standard glassware and equipment to determine chemical and physical characteristics, support QA processes, and ensure compliance with internal and customer specifications.

Position Summary:
Under general supervision, a variety of routine laboratory operations are performed in accordance with quality assurance. Duties usually consist of taking measurements, performing several routine quantitative and qualitative chemical analytical tests, performing routine calculations and determinations on tests, and evaluating physical characteristics. Uses standard laboratory glassware and equipment or one or two complex pieces of equipment. This position reports to the Quality Assurance Lead and/or Supervisor.


Skill Summary:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Must comply with all Quality Assurance policies and regulations. Modeling and coaching these expectations to facility team members.

  • Complete inspections to verify product meets internal and customer specifications and takes appropriate actions when a non-compliance is observed.

  • Accurately conducts product reviews to meet product grading, packaging and weight compliance procedures.

  • Monitors team members work practices and addresses any deficiencies by informing the team member of the nonconformance and reporting the issue to their supervisor.

  • Monitoring product processing areas and practices to mitigate any potential for foreign material contamination.

  • Inspects equipment for cleanliness and proper working condition prior to start up, or during process (based on shift) and records findings in a neat and legible manner.

  • Responsible for collecting, tracking and implementing numerical data.

  • Must be able to communicate properly with all levels of management


Performs laboratory work according to prescribed Good Laboratory Practices.


Determines chemical and physical characteristics or composition.


Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.


Analyzes samples. Performs laboratory tests according to prescribed GLPs. Tests for nutritional properties of feed and ingredients and pesticides.



  • Audit production floor, offal room, storage rooms, shipping and receiving areas, staging area to ensure cleanliness from previous shift. Responsible of releasing the plant.

  • Ensure all pallets/tubs that enter the production area are clean and free of damage. Report any foreign material.

  • Ensure that combo washer is working properly by checking washed tubs.

  • Report to QA supervisor, Maint., production any issue detected, any failed form submitted.

  • Check all metal detectors working properly (use proper forms/documentation). Report any issues.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Perform temperature checks of product, coolers, freezers, production area reefers.

  • Perform finished product temp checks.

  • Record all finished product produced and sample results at the sharepoint.

  • Record all new packaging material/charcoal.

  • Report any issues from raw material before production (temperature, foreign material, any quality issue).

  • Record all product shipped in Sharepoint; critically analyze data. Including the creation of COA per BOL.

  • Record specs in Sharepoint.

  • Quarterly review and train all employees of CGMPs if necessary.

  • Work closely with production leads to ensure production area is properly cleaned at all times (including before breaks)

  • Glass and Brittle plastic form monthly.

  • Work closely with supervisor on rejected raw materials.

  • Submit all forms following the CGMP.

  • Tests samples to verify conformity to specifications. Records test results.

  • Cleans laboratory equipment.

  • Calibrates laboratory instruments.

  • Safe chemical handling


CANDIDATES ARE EXPECTED TO:



  • Be able to work varying days (including weekends) when processing schedules change

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so their work is done efficiently and cooperatively with coworkers and leadership teams.

  • Be able to move, open, and inspect plant-produced products.

  • Be able to stand on concrete surfaces up to four (4) continuous hours with a minimum of 8 hours per shift.

  • Be physically able to navigate to all areas of the processing facility and follow all safety procedures.

  • Be able to perform strenuous work in a damp environment with a wide range of temperatures and aromas.

  • Be dependable and prompt with strong integrity and work ethic.

  • Be able to work independently and exhibit CGMP values to uphold the Quality Assurance programs.

  • Have the ability to understand and follow instructions and to learn the methods and practices used in protein conversion


Pay: $18.10hr $1.00hr shift differential
