Job summary

Wells Enterprises seeks a Quality Supervisor responsible for overseeing production quality, coordinating Laboratory Technicians and operations staff to ensure materials meet quality standards. The role includes training, audits, and documentation across GMP, HACCP, and SQF programs.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 5+ years in QA/QC within food/nutrition manufacturing, and PCQI/HACCP/SQF certifications or plan to obtain within one year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Business Administration, Education, Technology, or Communications.
  • Minimum 5 years in QA/QC within food or nutritional product manufacturing.
  • Experience in FDA/USDA regulated environments.
  • PCQI, HACCP and SQF certifications required or to be attained within one year.
  • Familiarity with GMPs, equipment qualification, and CFR regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and maintains QC Technician weekly schedule and trains employees in SOPs and safety topics.
  • Monitors QA final acceptance, product holds, and material review; performs GMP audits and writes findings.
  • Performs monthly air monitoring, checks weigher settings, and maintains reports.
  • Supports KPI data collection for audits, holds, environmental and microbiological testing and customer complaints.
  • Works with sanitation for facility maintenance and conducts sanitation validation.
  • Conducts annual validations of prerequisite programs including metal detection, allergen and scanner.
  • Verifies incoming COAs and maintains registries for finished products and materials.
  • Supports internal and external audits of the QMS and assists management on special projects.

Job Description

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for monitoring production and coordinating the activities of Laboratory Technicians and operations personnel involved in inspecting materials and ensuring that they meet the quality standards specified by the company.

  • Schedules and maintains QC Technician weekly work schedule. Train employees in SOPs and ensure training effectiveness. Train Lab group in safety topics, testing procedures and quality procedures.
  • Monitors QA final acceptance, product hold and materials review. Performs GMP audits of processing areas and writes report of findings. Documents and enforces HACCP, GMPs and SSOPs, SOPs. Performs raw material inspections, places on hold if necessary and submits a Supplier Non-Conformance Report. Prepares product samples for microbiological testing, helps to interpret results, corrective actions and resolutions with management staff. Performs pre‑op and in‑operational inspections including testing with ATP swabs and Allergen swabbing.
  • Performs monthly air monitoring testing for the facility’s freezers. Determines check weigher settings for customer‑specific product. Maintains daily net content lot reports and weekly tare variability reports.
  • Assists Quality Manager in data collections for monthly KPI reports: monthly audits, holds, environmental and microbiological testing, customer complaints, product cuttings, process controls and employee training.
  • Works with sanitation to ensure that the facility is maintained satisfactorily. Conducts annual sanitation validation and reports results to management.
  • Conducts annual validations of pre‑requisite programs including metal detection, allergen and scanner. Maintains supporting documents for the validations: allergen matrix, major allergen declarations and the calibration log.
  • Verifies incoming ingredient COAs and incoming inspection reports. Maintains finished product, raw material, packaging, vendor and glass and brittle plastic registries. Inspects facility's glass and plastic monthly.
  • Supports internal and external audits of the QMS and integrated quality systems. Interacts with state, local and third‑party auditors when plant audits are scheduled.
  • Assists management staff in special projects or other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your supervisor, as dictated by business necessity.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Business Administration, Education, Technology, or Communications. Equivalent year‑for‑year experience with food or nutritional products manufacturing/retail firms in manufacturing or quality programs may be substituted for degree level.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience, preferably within a quality assurance/control role, in a medical product, food or nutritional product manufacturing or retail setting. Previous experience in an FDA/USDA regulated industry. Process Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification required. If not acquired prior to accepting the position, must attain PCQI, HACCP and SQF certification within one year in role. Familiarity with food/nutritional product legislation, manufacturing equipment qualification, project management, and FDA & USDA CFR regulations.

Specifications:

  • Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing equipment, systems and tools, productivity principles and practices, food hygiene, basic food microbiology, food organoleptic assessment, production processes, batch process documentation, quality tools, material flow and management. Knowledgeable in safe work practices and GMPs. Prior experience with effective labor planning and scheduling and procedure writing.
  • Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills; strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills; attention to detail; written and oral instruction ability; multi‑project/multi‑tasking capability; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint). Fundamental math skills.
  • Abilities: Ability to establish strong relationships at all levels. Ability to understand overall business operation. Effective listening, offering solutions, resolving concerns. Collaborative environment. Prioritize, coordinate multiple tasks, work under time constraints. Translate theory into practice.

Financial Scope

Responsible for performing within budgeted costs and obtaining specific continuous improvement savings. Execution of job tasks is essential for assuring food safety and quality and preventing the manufacture of adulterated or misbranded products. Position will manage anticipated budget and revenue generation expectations as applicable.

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $76,701.97 to $107,382.76 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications and other job‑related factors permitted by law.
