General Job Description

As the QA/QC Supervisor you will lead the QA/QC Project Team, setting clear expectations and actively coaching and developing direct reports. Ensure that the First-in Inspection process effectively reduces risk and minimizes cost due to fabrication and installation errors, promote resolution of Quality issues with Project Team, and monitor all quality issues to ensure systematic problems are addressed. Actively audit the execution of the Project Specific Quality Control Plan to ensure that all required commitments are adhered to and meet the Standard Operating Procedures of the Company. Proactively work with the Project Management Team to support the success of the project and provide an avenue for input into quality requirement changes. In this role, the QA/QC Area Manager - Local Operations is responsible for the direct oversight, coordination, and execution of Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities across a defined group of projects within a limited geographic area. This position provides hands‑on leadership, daily project interface, and real‑time quality risk management for active fabrication shops and field sites, serving as the primary QA/QC leadership presence for all assigned projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component.
  • Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records.
  • Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  • Engage with the General Contractor's Quality Assurance Manager for inspection planning, project compliance, non‑conformance management, quality audits.
  • Provide project quality expectations to new inspectors.
  • Attend weekly project update meetings with the project group including upcoming activities, status and deadlines.
  • Reviews all purchased products or components and provides input to the decision of whether to accept the product and future purchases from the vendor.
  • Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.
  • Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the management team.
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
  • Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of QA/QC in conjunction with the project team.
Project & Field Oversight
  • Serve as the primary QA/QC point of contact for all projects within the assigned geographic area.
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership to shop and field QC personnel supporting those projects.
  • Conduct routine jobsite and fabrication shop visits to verify compliance with ASME codes, project specifications, customer requirements, and ACCO QA/QC procedures.
  • Actively participate in system walkdowns, hold‑point inspections, pressure tests, and turnover readiness reviews.
Staffing & Resource Management
  • Ensure QC staffing levels align with current and upcoming project workload.
  • Assign inspectors and QC personnel based on project risk, complexity, and schedule.
  • Mentor and coach QC staff to ensure consistent inspection practices, proper documentation, and professional interaction with field teams.
Issue Resolution & Risk Control
  • Lead the identification, documentation, and resolution of nonconformances, installation defects, documentation gaps, and code or specification deviations.
  • Ensure NCRs, corrective actions, and re‑inspection activities are handled promptly and effectively.
  • Act as the escalation point for unresolved field quality issues.
Coordination & Communication
  • Work directly with Project Managers, Superintendents, Fabrication leadership, Safety, Engineering, and Regional QA/QC leadership.
  • Provide regular status updates on quality trends, staffing needs, high‑risk systems, and project readiness for testing and turnover.
Program & Compliance
  • Ensure all local projects follow ACCO's QA/QC Program, welding and brazing programs, Inspection Test Plans, and customer/site‑specific requirements.
  • Support audits, client inspections, and third‑party verification activities.
Position Requirements (Skills, Work Experience, Education, etc.)
  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; with 10 years of overall experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seeking at least 8 years of experience in Quality Control focused on ASME B31 piping codes, industrial and commercial construction, fabrication, welding, non‑destructive testing, and/or other similar fields.
  • 5+ years in construction QA/QC preferred in industrial construction, process piping, semiconductor/high‑purity environments, or hydronic HVAC/mechanical systems.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory QA/QC role.
  • Current certification in accordance with AWS QC‑1 as a Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI), Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), and/or ICC Mechanical - Commercial Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and managing direct reports.
  • Proficient understanding of ASME Section IX BP&V Code and experience creating and reviewing welding procedures and welder or brazer qualifications.
  • Ability to read, write, and problem solve, make quick decisions, interpret data and analyze results; effective written and verbal communication is essential. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Excellent time management and written and spoken communication skills, highly professional, organized, and trustworthy team player.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Moderate experience with business and software technologies including MS Office, Google Workspace, Adobe, Bluebeam, Box.
  • Proficiency in English required; Spanish preferred.

Hours

Monday through Friday beginning between 6:00 am and 7:00 am and ending between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, with one hour for lunch. Eight hours per day is required, and occasional overtime may be necessary due to business needs.

Travel

75-90% travel to and from the primary office, fabrication facilities, and project sites within the assigned geographic area.
