Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ construction QA/QC experience.
  • Structural engineer/erector/inspection experience preferred.
  • Concrete pre-install/inspection experience preferred.
  • Site/architectural installation and inspection experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of field management software (BIM360 Field, Procore, Latista).
  • High School diploma or GED; Bachelor degree in civil/mechanical/electrical/structural/construction management or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate inspectors, trade contractors and personnel.
  • Perform onsite inspections in electrical, mechanical, utilities, civil/architectural/structural scopes.
  • Attend QA/QC and Quality Team meetings and provide details.

Job description

Position Summary

Hoffman Construction is seeking a QA/QC Field Engineer (Mechanical). This individual will be an integral member of the on-site Quality Department, providing essential support throughout the lifecycle of the construction project. Reporting to the High-Tech Program Quality Manager, the role will work closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams to manage day-to-day site activities, quality control efforts on site, including document review during preconstruction and construction. The QA/QC Engineer plays a critical role, including inspecting the project generally, including specific scopes, during the offsite fabrication, construction, commissioning, and punch list phases of the project – working to bring all issues to closure. This position will collaborate with design professionals, clients, trade contractors and craftspeople to address complex coordination issues; you are on the front line in identifying, preventing, and solving technical problems across multiple scopes in a complex mission-critical environment. This position will be fully at the project site near Boise, Idaho.

Salary Range

$93,600 - $124,800 Depending on Experience

Essential Responsibilities
  • Schedule and coordinate inspectors, trade contractors, and associated personnel
  • Perform onsite inspections in assigned scope (electrical, mechanical, utilities, civil/architectural/structural, commissioning, etc.)
  • Attend and provide details for QA/QC Meeting and Quality Team Meeting
  • Ensure all trade contractors are following their approved QA/QC Plans
  • Ensure all trade contractors are installing work in accordance with project documents, applicable codes and standards, and best work practices.
  • Perform offsite and onsite inspections of Owner Furnished Equipment
  • Must be able to interpret and implement proper installations in compliance with all local authority permitting, codes, and site specifications.
  • Provide clear communication, verbally, written, and electronically.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience and Education
  • Minimum 2 years’ construction QA/QC experience.
  • Proven experience Structural engineer, erector, and/or inspection experience.
  • Concrete pre-install, install, and/or inspection experience is preferred.
  • Site and architectural installation and/or inspection experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of and competency in Field Management Software (BIM360 Field, Procore, Latista, etc.)
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor of science in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, structural engineering, construction management or equivalent degree and/or equivalent craft level work experience.
Position Related Skills
  • A strong commitment to quality compliance with OSHA standards and site-specific requirements.
  • Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations.
  • Ability to manage several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions about work in progress.
  • Advanced visual observation and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with clients, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Must be a dedicated team player, self-starter, flexible and able to work well with a variety of personalities and minimal instruction. Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations is required.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, to ascend and descend ladders, scaffold, inspect confined or underground spaces.
  • Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Frequently operates machinery and will use hand/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position materials.
  • Sight: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license. The work is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading print and digital documents.
  • Hearing: Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment mor than 75% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection, as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and co-workers in an office setting and on the job site.
  • Speech: Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope in English.
  • Lift/Carry: Must have the ability to lift or manipulate fifty pounds to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
  • Bending/Twisting: Frequent.
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position for purpose of examining project work.
  • Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow for extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
  • Must use independent judgment, organizational and critical thinking skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
