Salary: USD40 - USD50 per hour
Location: Loveland, CO
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Hourly Rate: $40-$50/hour
Type: Long Term Contract
Job Purpose/Overview
We are seeking a QA Engineer to join our growing Quality Center of Excellence and support one of our core release trains delivering software that powers medical diagnostics. This is a high-visibility role backfilling a senior team member and contributing to a complex ecosystem that spans core platform software, hardware integrations, and imaging applications.
The ideal candidate is a confident, vocal quality advocate who thrives in a Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment, engages early in the development lifecycle, and actively shapes acceptance criteria alongside developers and product owners. You will be a key voice at the table — anticipating failure modes, asking the hard "what if" questions, and helping the team ship reliable, well-tested software on aggressive timelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shift-Left Quality & Agile Collaboration
- Actively participate in the Three Amigos process (developer, product owner, QA) to review user stories and co-author clear, testable acceptance criteria before development begins
- Identify risks, edge cases, and failure modes early — think through what could go wrong (system dependencies, integration failures, data integrity issues) and build test coverage accordingly
- Participate fully in SAFe ceremonies, including PI Planning, iteration planning, stand-ups, system demos, and retrospectives
- Serve as a strong quality voice within the release train, influencing decisions and raising concerns constructively
Test Design and Execution
- Design, document, and execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test cases
- Perform manual, exploratory, and API-level testing across a complex, multi-system environment
- Validate end-to-end workflows — how orders are placed, processed, resulted, and displayed downstream
- Develop and maintain automated tests where automation adds clear value; contribute to the growing test automation framework
Complex System Testing
- Test software that interacts with physical diagnostic hardware, imaging systems, and backend data services
- Understand and validate integrations, data flows, and dependencies across multiple systems
- Perform data validation using SQL and other tools to confirm system behavior end-to-end
Defect Management and Communication
- Document, track, and triage defects in Jira (or equivalent), providing clear reproduction steps and business impact
- Partner with developers to isolate root cause and validate fixes
- Communicate status, risks, and quality metrics clearly to product owners, Scrum Masters, and engineering leadership
- Contribute to the build-out of the Quality Center of Excellence — test standards, reusable assets, and best practices
- Share knowledge across release trains and mentor less-experienced team members informally
- Bring fresh ideas and stay open to evolving tools, frameworks, and approaches
Education and Experience
- 3–5 years of professional QA experience in an agile software development environment
- Demonstrated experience operating in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) — PI Planning, ART ceremonies, feature/story breakdown
- Experience working in complex, multi-system environments (integrated hardware/software, healthcare, diagnostics, imaging, or similarly regulated or technical domains is a plus)
- Business analyst experience or a strong requirements-gathering background is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must-Have
- Strong communicator — confident, vocal, and comfortable challenging assumptions in team settings; this is not a heads-down role
- Analytical thinker who naturally anticipates edge cases, failure modes, and "what could go wrong" scenarios
- Experience co-authoring acceptance criteria and participating in Three Amigos or similar shift-left practices
- Proficiency with test case management and defect tracking tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar)
- Solid working knowledge of SQL for data validation
- Experience with API testing (Postman, REST Assured, or similar)
- Exposure to test automation tools (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab)
Team Fit
- Agile and flexible mindset — open to evolving processes, tools, and priorities
- Collaborative, team-first orientation; willing to jump in where the release train needs help
- Comfortable operating on tight delivery timelines without sacrificing quality
- Self-directed and accountable
Nice to Have
- ISTQB certification or equivalent
- Experience in healthcare, veterinary, medical device, diagnostics, or imaging software
- Background bridging business analysis and QA
