Job summary

Bakelite is seeking a QA Chemist to ensure product quality, support plant operations, and maintain a safe, high-performing manufacturing environment in Grayling, Michigan.

You will work with laboratory instrumentation, analyze data, and collaborate with operations to keep the facility running safely, efficiently, and in compliance with safety and quality standards. Ideal candidates bring lab experience with GC, pH meters, and SAP, plus a chemistry background.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

Here are your primary responsibilities:

  • Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Testing water to maintain chemical treatment.
  • Supporting the operations group.
  • Reviewing laboratory data.
  • Managing multiple tasks and working independently.
  • Fostering a safe work environment in compliance with all laws, rules, regulations, and site standards.
What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities)
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation (e.g. GC, Elemental Analyzer, titrators, pH meters) and wet chemistry analyses.
  • Ability to calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of laboratory principles.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, and Outlook specifically).
  • Self-motivated.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Experience reviewing, analyzing, and documenting lab data.
  • Attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
