Job summary

Citi is hiring a Python Developer for the Applications Development team in Chennai. You will contribute to building and maintaining core banking applications, working on Python-based projects within Wholesale Lending and related services.

The role involves design, development, testing and deployment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and applying best practices in security and efficiency. Prior experience with Python, databases, and CI/CD is required.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of relevant experience.
• Python developer to work with existing team building strategic and tactical projects for the Wholesale Lending business.
• Hands on software engineer who will be writing code.
• 5+ years of experience in python development required.
• Full Stack Python web development experience preferred.
• Understanding of both relational and non-relational databases.
• Experience with MongoDB and/or Oracle preferred.
• Experience in the financial services industry required.
• Wholesale Lending or Markets Trading experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems and able to write shell & batch programs.
• Able to work with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment tools.
• Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert (SME) in area(s) of Applications Development.
• Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Experience in version control tools like GIT, Bitbucket.
• Enthusiasm for learning and pursuing to develop new skills.

Responsibilities

• Feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establishing/revising applications systems to meet business needs.
• Monitor and control all phases of development, design, construction, testing, and implementation; provide user and operational support.
• Analyze complex problems, evaluate business processes and industry standards, and provide expert recommendations.
• Recommend and develop security measures in post-implementation analysis to ensure system design and functionality.
• Consult with users/clients and other tech groups on issues and install customer exposure systems.
• Help define operating standards and processes; act as advisor to junior staff.
• Operate with limited supervision and exercise independent judgement.
• Serve as SME to senior stakeholders and team members.
• Escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency.

Job Overview

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
• Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
• Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
• Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
• Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
• Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
• Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts
• Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
• Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
• Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
