Job summary

Summit Orthopedics is hiring a Purchasing Specialist for our Landmark Surgery Center in Woodbury, MN. This full-time role involves placing orders for medical supplies, verifying receipts, and maintaining inventory while ensuring accurate distribution across the surgery center.

The position requires at least one year in purchasing or inventory control, preferably in healthcare, and a High School diploma. 8-hour shifts, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM; flexibility to float to other Summit locations may be needed.

Qualifications

• One year of purchasing and/or inventory control experience required.
• Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification is typical for this employer.

Responsibilities

• Place orders for forms, clerical supplies, medical supplies, office equipment and medical equipment with vendors.
• Authorize, unpack, and verify received orders against slips.
• Inventory and restock supply shelves during inventory reviews.
• Ensure orders are distributed to correct areas of the surgery center.
• Communicate with vendors about orders and service problems.
• Maintain pricing reference numbers and inform data entry staff of updates.
• Support surgery center processing as needed.
• Assist with staffing requests for patient safety duties.

Under supervision, the Purchasing Specialist assumes responsibility for placing orders, receiving/checking in orders, maintaining accurate inventory and charging methods for the entire surgery center. The Purchasing Specialist will also be responsible for picking all surgical procedures for scheduled case from physician preference cards, and for obtaining all special request items when procedures are scheduled. The Purchasing Specialist will be able to provide backup in sterile processing/decontamination areas and instrument assembly when needed.

This is a full-time opportunity based at our Landmark Surgery Center located in Woodbury, MN. 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday with a schedule of 7:00 AM to 3:30 pm (schedule is subject to change). This position may require flexibility to float to other Summit locations as needed.

Primary duties:

• Places orders for forms, clerical supplies, medical supplies, office equipment and medical equipment to appropriate vendors by calling, faxing or electronic mail.
• Authorizes, unpacks, and verifies all received and ordered supplies against order slip and packing slip.
• Inventory and restock medical/clerical supply shelves during periodic scheduled inventory control reviews.
• Ensure orders are received and distributed to correct areas of surgery center.
• Communicate with vendors regarding orders and service problems, reviews new or alternate supplies.
• Informs database entry staff of new products and provides them with correct pricing and reference numbers.
• Orders paper supplies for housekeeping.
• Provides backup for surgery center processing/aide.
• Assists with manpower request from staff: i.e.: under request to assist with physically restraining patients who may require restraint for the safety of other patients/staff.

Summit's hiring range for this position is $20.64 to $25.80 per hour. The hired candidate may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, differentials and/or deferred compensation.
