Job summary

Velocity Electronics, a Jabil company, in Austin, TX, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to grow and manage the vendor base while supporting the sales team in fulfilling customer component requirements. The role leads sourcing, procurement, and sales support to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

The Purchasing Manager will oversee procurement, vendor qualifications, and the Buyers team, combining strategic and hands-on responsibilities with cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or related field.
• 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or industry experience.
• 2+ years of managerial or team leadership experience.
• Experience in the semiconductor, electronic components, or electronics distribution industry.
• Strong knowledge of sourcing, procurement, vendor management, and supply chain processes.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Support sellers with vendor evaluations, datasheet lookups, and expediting.
• Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to support sourcing objectives.
• Supervise Buyers and manage team per Velocity Electronics’ policies.
• Review and approve purchase orders and VRMAs for accuracy and compliance.
• Set goals for Buyers and manage Buyer/Seller arrangements.
• Prepare monthly reports to track purchasing activity and metrics.
• Lead department meetings to align priorities and address needs.
• Monitor and expedite inbound orders to meet customer requirements.

We are seeking a Purchasing Manager to grow and manage Velocity’s vendor base while supporting our sales team in fulfilling customer component requirements. This role will drive sourcing, procurement, and sales support activities to ensure we deliver exceptional customer experiences and outcomes.

The Purchasing Manager will oversee the procurement and expediting of materials from suppliers, manage vendor qualifications and relationships, and supervise and develop the Buyers team. This is a hands‑on role that combines strategic and operational responsibilities and requires strong collaboration with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

What can you expect to do?

• Seller Support & Technical Sourcing: Support sellers with vendor evaluations, datasheet lookups, technical inquiries, BOM support, vendor negotiations, and expediting.

• Vendor Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors to support sourcing and procurement objectives.

• Team Leadership & Management: Supervise Buyers and carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with Velocity Electronics’ policies and procedures.

• Purchasing & Order Approval: Review and approve purchase orders and VRMAs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company requirements.

• Goal Setting & Team Coordination: Set goals for Buyers and effectively manage Buyer/Seller arrangements to support business priorities.

• Reporting & Analytics: Prepare and review monthly reports to track purchasing activity, team performance, and key business metrics.

• Communication & Collaboration: Lead and participate in department meetings to align priorities, share updates, and address business needs.

• Order Expediting: Monitor and expedite inbound orders to ensure timely delivery and support customer requirements.

What is the experience and knowledge needed to be successful in this role?

• 4-year college degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field.

• 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or industry experience.

• 2+ years of managerial or team leadership experience.

• Experience in the semiconductor, electronic components, or electronics distribution industry.

• Strong knowledge of sourcing, procurement, vendor management, and supply chain processes.

• Experience with complex enterprise platforms, including ERP systems such as SAP.

• Strong understanding of electronic components, supplier networks, and purchasing practices.
