Job summary

A leading food processing company in Michigan is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to manage the purchase order cycle, ensure timely communication with vendors, and maintain accurate inventory records. Responsibilities include acquiring confirmation on pricing and delivery dates, coordinating with relevant departments, and assisting the Purchasing Manager. Ideal candidates will have 2 to 5 years of experience in procurement, strong organizational and communication skills, and be proficient in computer applications including SAP.

Qualifications

Position Details

Position Title: Purchasing Assistant Warehouse 8 hour - AM


Department: Purchasing Department


Location: Plainwell Plant


Classification: Salaried Non Exempt


Direct Report: Purchasing Supervisor


The primary responsibilities of the Purchasing Specialist revolve around turning purchase orders from released requisitions, confirming pricing and delivery dates on purchase orders with vendors, building relationships with vendors, and assisting the Purchasing Manager with their duties.


Responsibilities


  • Responsible for all aspects of the purchase order cycle, including checking requisitions for accurate information and internal releases.

  • Acquiring pricing and delivery date confirmation from vendors.

  • Contacting vendors when deliveries are late or incomplete, coordinating with Packaging and Stock Room Departments.

  • Assisting vendors with purchase order questions.

  • Working with accounting to ensure purchase orders have been received and invoices posted.

  • Working with Accounts Payable to review payment status or issues on vendor invoices.

  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Purchasing Manager or Controller.


Knowledge & Skills

The Knowledge of overseeing all functions involved in incoming receiving inspection and accurately processing the inventory changes to Maintenance Parts, Operating Supplies, Ingredients, and Packaging supplies. This person will work closely with other departments within the Plainwell Complex to ensure materials are received by the correct department and personnel.


Qualifications


  • Finding parts and materials in the computer database for maintenance and other departments.

  • Checking on-hand computer balances.

  • Locating parts stored in specific warehouses.

  • Researching order histories: on order quantities, requisitions, receiving histories, issue histories, return and repair histories.

  • Two to five years purchasing/procurement experience.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good math skills.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and some knowledge of Access.

  • SAP experience preferred.

  • Minimum one-year experience in procurement, inventory control, asset management, or incoming inspection and receiving.


Education

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma/GED; College Degree in business related preferred.


Hours

Hours: 7:00am to 3:30pm.
