The County of Napa seeks an experienced attorney for the County Counsel’s Office to handle complex civil public agency matters and provide expert supervision to junior attorneys.
This at-will, non-benefited Extra Help role requires advising county officers, drafting contracts, and leading civil trial work while interpreting laws and precedents. Active California Bar membership is required.

This “at will” management class serves at the pleasure of the County Counsel. This class is responsible for performing the most difficult and complex legal assignments on a daily basis and provides technical supervision over the subordinate Attorney classes.
May include, but are not limited to, the following:confer with and advise County and district officers and employees on the most complex legal questions pertaining to the respective powers, duties, functions, and obligations; provide technical supervision and advise other attorneys; confer with and provide advice to other professional staff in the preparation and presentation of court cases; attend meetings of boards and commissions as requested and give legal advice and counsel; prepare legal briefs; perform complex and highly responsible civil trial work; draft contracts, deeds, leases, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal instruments; study and interpret laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities; prepare legal briefs and correspondence; perform difficult assignments on a regular and continuous basis involving at least two of the main client groups that have been established within the office.
