Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assesses, plans, provides and evaluates diagnostic and therapeutic procedures relating to pulmonary care for all patients.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

  2. *Transports patients by wheelchair, cart, and hospital bed with assistance as needed. Follows hospital and department procedures to ensure safe transportation of patients, records, and equipment.

  3. Assesses, directs, plans, implements, evaluates and documents patient care and procedures in accordance with established Pulmonary Diagnostic policies, standards and guidelines; supervises and coordinates other assigned healthcare personnel in the care of patients.

  4. *Answers telephone calls concerned with patient scheduling, coordination of services or questions regarding procedure with courtesy and accuracy; follows organizational procedures to ensure patient confidentiality.

  5. *Administers medication, treatments and other nursing services according to physician's instructions, scope of practice and State of Nebraska licensure.

  6. *Administers and monitors the effect of conscious sedation agents in accordance with physician's orders, hospital policy and state licensure for a Registered Nurse.

  7. Establishes priorities and assignments of daily work schedule; maintains a safe working environment.

  8. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.

  9. Operates applicable hospital equipment, especially those that are Pulmonary specific; cleans, disinfects and sterilizes equipment used in Pulmonary procedures.

  10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

  11. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

  12. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Knowledge ofthe principles of human anatomy and physiology with emphasis on patient disease processes and supportive equipment requirements.

  2. Knowledge of Pulmonary diagnostics and treatment modalities and patient management.

  3. Knowledge of patient education, Joint Commissionstandardsand requirements.

  4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

  5. Ability to respond promptly to on-call situations.

  6. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.

  7. Ability to react professionally under stressful and emergency situations.

  8. Ability to evaluate the safety and efficacy of environment and patient care givers.

  9. Ability to effectively record and reflect observations regardingpatients and their interactions and environment.

  10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  11. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

  12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

  13. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

  15. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

  16. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Two (2) years of clinical nursing experience required. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice areas as required by State or Federal standards/regulations.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
