Job summary

The Town of Elon is seeking a Public Works Technician I to perform a variety of hands-on tasks maintaining town grounds, infrastructure, and facilities. The role requires dependable, hard-working individuals capable of handling outdoor workloads and contributing to safe, well-maintained streets and parks.

Typical duties include mowing, trimming, pipe maintenance, and equipment operation. A high school diploma or GED and a NC driver's license are required, with CDL-B and DENR certifications

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or GED and 3–4 years of related work in water/sewer, streets, and buildings/grounds maintenance.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license; CDL-B may be required for some assignments.
• Certification for water distribution or sewage collection may be required depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance incl. mowing, trimming, pruning, and mulching.
• Repair or maintain water and sewer pipes and related building trades tasks.
• Operate maintenance equipment and perform heavy physical labor as needed.
• Check valve operations and report discrepancies to supervisor.
• Drive and assist with worksite logistics, haul debris, and support after-hour emergencies.
