Job summary

The City of Maypearl is seeking a dedicated Public Works laborer to perform a variety of manual maintenance tasks on city streets, landscaping, irrigation, and related infrastructure. The role may involve light equipment operation and requires adherence to safety procedures and city policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Manual labor, landscaping, irrigation, maintenance, or construction experience preferred.
• Valid Texas Class C driver's license required.
• Must successfully complete required pre-employment screening, including a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance and minor repairs to streets, signs, landscaping, trees, irrigation systems, and other public infrastructure.
• Performs routine landscaping, trimming, cleanup, and grounds maintenance.
• Loads, unloads, transports, and operates tools, materials, and equipment.
• Cleans and maintains assigned City vehicles, tools, and equipment and reports maintenance or safety concerns.
• Assists with traffic control, storm preparation, emergency response, and other Public Works activities as needed.
• Follows City safety procedures and properly uses required tools and protective equipment.

Job description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual labor and maintenance activities involving City streets, signs, trees, landscaping, irrigation, vehicles, equipment, and other public infrastructure. The position may operate light equipment and assist with other Public Works activities as assigned. Work is performed in accordance with City policies and applicable safety procedures.

Essential Duties

• Performs general maintenance and minor repairs to City streets, signs, landscaping, trees, irrigation systems, and other public infrastructure.
• Performs routine landscaping, trimming, cleanup, and grounds maintenance.
• Performs basic irrigation maintenance and repairs.
• Loads, unloads, transports, and operates tools, materials, and equipment.
• Cleans and maintains assigned City vehicles, tools, and equipment and reports maintenance or safety concerns.
• Assists with traffic control, storm preparation, emergency response, and other Public Works activities as needed.
• Follows City safety procedures and properly uses required tools and protective equipment.
• Identifies and reports drainage, street, sign, landscaping, irrigation, and other infrastructure issues.
• Interacts professionally and respectfully with residents, contractors, coworkers, and the public.
• Maintains City property and equipment responsibly and follows all City policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Regular and punctual attendance is required. Overtime, weekend, and emergency/on-call work may be required.

Knowledge and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of landscaping, irrigation systems, construction materials, tools, and general maintenance practices.
• Ability to perform basic landscaping, irrigation repairs, tree trimming, and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and light equipment.
• Ability to identify and report maintenance, drainage, street, sign, and infrastructure issues.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete assigned work.
• Basic computer and smartphone skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate professionally with residents, contractors, coworkers, and the public.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work, including lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, walking, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, dust, and other adverse conditions.
• Ability to work extended hours and respond to emergencies when required.
