Job summary

The City of Coral Springs is seeking a Public Works Inspector to review, inspect and permit construction within the City’s public infrastructure. You will ensure compliance with city, state and federal regulations across streets, sidewalks, utilities and facilities, coordinating with contractors and utility companies through project lifecycles.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, conducting field inspections, and providing guidance on permit procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Public Works Construction Inspection or related fields.
• FDEP Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• OSHA 10 hours Construction Safety and Health Certificate.
• MOT Intermediate or Advanced Level certification.
• Florida Driver License with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Reads, reviews and interprets construction plans and specifications for permit compliance and inspection.
• Coordinates permitted construction activities within public rights-of-way to minimize conflicts and ensure safety.
• Researches and signs off on driveway and telecommunications permits; follow up with contractors and homeowners on utility conflicts.
• Coordinates construction and inspection services with contractors and other agencies; communicates with utility reps, contractors and the public.
• Serves as primary liaison for the City Engineer on construction matters in Public Right-of-Way.
• Oversees all construction activities in the City Right-of-Way by private contractors and city-hired vendors.
• Interprets contractual documents, enforces rules, and authorizes field changes within delegated authority.
• Assists in resolving resident and restoration concerns.
• Performs roadway inspections and interpretation of testing reports.
• Performs site inspections on City projects and conducts inspections; tracks project status and reports deficiencies.
• Supervises water and sewer shutdowns related to construction activities and emergencies.
• Provides pre-construction meeting information and coordinates surveys and soil tests.
• Reviews invoices for contractor payment and reviews GIS maps for staff and records requests.
