Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist to design, develop, and produce complex maps and related geospatial products to support planning, analysis, and decision-making for city projects.

A Bachelor's degree in Geography or a closely related field and at least three years of GIS experience are required, along with a valid driver's license and the ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Engineering Technology, Computer Science or a closely related field of study from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in the use of geographic information systems or a closely related field.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
• Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
• This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy; will be subject to random testing while an incumbent in this position.

Minimum Requirements

Additional Requirements

• May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
• May require some local travel.
• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
