Job summary

City of Stephenville seeks a Public Works Director to lead the Public Works Department, reporting to the City Manager. This full-time role oversees utility and infrastructure programs and directs staff across multiple divisions to deliver essential services.

The incumbent will manage budget processes, develop long-range plans, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate with engineers, agencies, and city leadership on capital projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, construction management, or related field.
• Five years of municipal public works/utility operations experience with two years of admin/supervisory work.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise division superintendents and staff; hire, train, evaluate personnel.
• Develop and administer budgets; forecast staffing and resources; monitor expenditures.
• Oversee planning for water, sewer, streets, drainage, and landfill.
• Ensure compliance with codes and regulations; manage contracts and project delivery.
• Coordinate with engineers, agencies, and the City Council; prepare staff reports.
