Job summary

Cottonwood Heights City is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Deputy Director of Public Works to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional who is passionate about public service, infrastructure development, and making a meaningful impact in the community.

Working under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Deputy Director also serves as the Assistant City Engineer and plays a key role in overseeing the City's public

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Five (5) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of public works systems.
• Five (5) years of progressive supervisory experience.
• Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Utah.
• Valid Utah driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Lead department operations including streets, utilities, parks, facilities, and fleet services.
• Direct planning, design, construction, and completion of infrastructure improvements and capital projects.
• Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate assigned personnel while promoting a positive and productive work environment.
• Assist in developing and administering departmental budgets, monitoring expenditures, and overseeing purchasing activities.
• Manage assigned construction and maintenance projects, coordinate with contractors, and ensure contract compliance.
• Work closely with City departments, elected officials, community stakeholders, and the public to support City initiatives.
• Assist in coordinating departmental responses to emergencies and incidents affecting public infrastructure.
• Represent the Public Works Director as needed, including serving as Acting Director in their absence.
