Job summary

The City of Grand Forks is seeking a transit bus driver to operate a public transit vehicle safely on assigned routes and to provide excellent customer service to all passengers in Grand Forks, ND.

On-the-job CDL training is provided, with responsibilities including pre-trip checks, fare collection, and coordination with the Transportation Operations Supervisor to ensure on-time service and route accuracy.

Qualifications

• Two years of increasingly responsible experience operating a public transit bus.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 60 days, a valid commercial driver’s license with passenger and air brake endorsement.
• Ability to communicate clearly with passengers, including the disabled, visually impaired and hearing impaired.

Responsibilities

• Transport passengers safely on designated routes and stops.
• Provide information about schedules, routes, and transfers to passengers, including those with disabilities.
• Operate bus smoothly, announce required stops, and learn transfer points and times.
• Prepare the bus for daily routes by performing pre-trip inspections and basic cleanliness.
• Comply with traffic laws and monitor passengers and traffic during operation.
• Handle fare collection and daily reports of mileage.
• Report mechanical issues to the Transportation Operations Supervisor.
