Job summary

City of Bessemer is seeking Equipment Service Workers. This role focuses on tire inspection, repair, and replacement for cars, light and heavy trucks.

Incumbents may perform preventative maintenance on rolling stock, shop equipment, and facilities to ensure proper functioning, and they evaluate inventory needs for purchases. Work is performed with initiative and independently; supervisors review progress and completion of tasks.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver's license.
• Experience using common hand tools.
• Experience changing tires on cars or light trucks.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance on cars and light trucks.

Responsibilities

• Procures and/or manages inventory to ensure department needs are met.
• Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment/rolling stock.
• Repairs tires on equipment/rolling stock using appropriate tools.
• Maintains and repairs tire shop equipment.
• Performs safety inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Inspects tires for wear, damage, dates and tread depths.
• Makes recommendations on equipment needed for department operations.
