Job summary

The City of Moses Lake is seeking a Payroll/Accounting Specialist to manage the City’s bi-weekly payroll, benefits payments, and related reporting under the Assistant Finance Director. This role requires handling complex payroll tasks, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and coordinating with Human Resources and vendors.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Accounting preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Two years of payroll preparation experience required.
• Professional level experience in full-cycle payroll administration and related accounting.

Responsibilities

• Monitors payroll compliance and enters and reconciles employee data in the payroll system.
• Coordinates benefits enrollments, terminations, and changes with Human Resources and third-party providers.
• Prepares 941, W-2 reporting, and other payroll tax filings.
• Processes bi-weekly payroll and related disbursements (checks, direct deposits, EFT).
• Maintains payroll records and confidentiality in accordance with laws and city policies.
• Collaborates with HR and Finance to ensure accurate budgeting and reporting.
