Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of General Counsel invites applications for an Attorney in Washington, DC. The role focuses on employment and labor law, health care and information law matters, and represents VA in personnel cases before EEOC, MSPB, FLRA and FMCS arbitrators.

The attorney will advise management, handle complex litigation, review personnel actions, and may provide training to management. Active bar status and a JD are required.

Qualifications

• Recent litigation – civil or criminal.
• Recent trial experience.
• Experience with bargaining-unit employees and various unions (e.g., AFGE, SEIU, NNU).
• Experience with federal-sector employment and labor law.
• Experience with involuntary commitment and guardianship proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Advise and represent VA management on employment and labor law issues, and provide guidance on health care and information law matters.
• Litigate personnel cases before EEOC, MSPB, FLRA and FMCS arbitrators.
• Review and advise on personnel matters and provide occasional training to management.
