Job summary

The Department of Legislative Audit in Pierre is seeking an Auditor I–III to perform audits across state agencies. Positions report to the Legislative Auditor and involve independent and team work, with emphasis on accurate, well-documented audit work and clear communication with diverse stakeholders.

Auditors may advance with experience to Auditor II or III, with qualifications including degrees in accounting and related certifications.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration; other combinations may qualify.
• 2–3 years’ auditing/financial analysis experience for Auditor II; 4–6 years for Auditor III; CPA or equivalent substitutions may apply.
• Knowledge of GAAP/GAAS and governmental auditing standards is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Work well individually and in a team environment.
• Produce neat, concise, logical, and well-supported work product that complies with auditing standards and best practices.
• Contribute to a results-oriented culture through active participation in meetings and collaboration with coworkers.
• Ensure clear written and verbal communications with clients including legislature, agencies, local governments, officials, citizens, and federal entities.
