Job summary

The City of St. Charles is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join the Finance Department. This role supports auditing, budgeting, reconciliations, and payroll processes to ensure smooth financial operations for municipal services.

You will work with the Finance Director and Sr. Accountant on special projects and help maintain accounting systems, journal entries and month-end close, with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• Three years’ accounting and/or auditing experience.
• Experience with government accounting and GASB standards preferred.
• Knowledge of payroll computations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with analytical skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and enterprise financial systems.
• Background check and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Audit, budget, control functions, reconciliation and payroll support for the department.
• Collaborate with the Finance Director and Sr. Accountant on special projects.
• Maintain Treasury Management and capital asset accounting systems.
• Prepare journal entries and assist month-end close and balance sheet maintenance.
• Assist with annual and long-term budget preparation and payroll filings.
