Job summary

The Department of Public Safety (DPS), Public Safety Services (PSS), Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) seeks a capable paralegal to support attorneys in a mission-driven team. The role focuses on legal research, drafting, and case preparation in a public service environment.

Qualifications include an ABA-approved paralegal or legal assistant program, a CP certification, or a JD. This is a government position with standard state benefits and a 8:00 AM–4:30 PM schedule.

Qualifications

• Completion of an ABA-approved Paralegal or Legal Assistant program.
• Possession of a Certified Paralegal (CP) certification.
• Juris Doctorate.

Responsibilities

• Provides paralegal assistance to a team of attorneys in the Office of Legal Affairs.
• Conducts legal research using Westlaw and other resources; communicates professionally with the public and officials.
• Assists with drafting pleadings, memoranda and other legal correspondence; coordinates witness interviews.
• Maintains files, confidentiality, and electronic records in the OLA system.
• Maintains the OLA library and supports document retention/destruction processes.
• Delivers and retrieves materials as needed and supports court filing preparations.
