Job summary

Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware, is seeking a Public Safety Officer to provide a safe, secure environment across the campus. You will patrol facilities, respond to incidents, and assist patients, visitors and staff with safety-related needs while maintaining clear incident documentation.

The role requires a valid Delaware driver’s license, CPR/AED certification, and preferred IAHHSS Basic Course completion within 1 year.

Qualifications

• Prior law enforcement or healthcare public safety experience preferred.
• Delaware Driver's License required with no more than 3 moving violations on record.
• CPR/AED Certification.
• IAHSS Basic Course completion preferred within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a high visibility presence and proactively patrols campus facilities and property.
• Responds to emergencies and public safety incidents and initiates appropriate actions.
• Conducts investigations of accidents and security related incidents and initiates follow-up actions.
• Prepares incident reports and other documentation clearly and concisely.
• Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and the ability to verbally de-escalate hostile or combative situations.
• Knowledge of Use of Force techniques and applicable laws and regulations.
• Responds to behavioral health events (BERT) with clinical staff to ensure safety.
• Awareness of behavioral health policies and restraints usage.
• Responsible for safety of helipad and helicopter operations.
• Assists patients, visitors and staff with information and safety escorts.
• Monitors traffic control, parking enforcement and crowd control as assigned.
• Participates in training and maintains certifications.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Responds to emergencies and public safety incidents and initiates the appropriate actions per organization and department policies and guidelines.
• Conducts investigations of accidents and security related incidents and initiates appropriate follow-up per organization and department polices and guidelines.
• Prepares incident reports and other documentation in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
• Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and methods and the ability to verbally de-escalate hostile or combative situations.
• Knowledge of appropriate Use of Force techniques and methods, and federal, state and local statues/ regulations, which governs Use of Force.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge verbally and practicality.
• Responds to behavioral health events (Behavioral-Health Emergency Response Team -BERT), collaborates with clinical and medical staff, and takes appropriate action to keep patient and staff safe.
• Knowledge of behavioral health policies and protocols, including the appropriate use of restraints.
• Responsible for the safety and security of the helipad and helicopter operations.
• Assists patients, visitors and staff by providing information, safety escorts, along with other public safety related assistance.
• Monitors and assist with traffic control, parking enforcement and crowd control duties as assigned.
• Participates in training and certification sessions; maintains all necessary certifications.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Prior law enforcement or campus/healthcare public safety experience preferred.
• Valid Delaware Driver's License required with no more than 3 moving violations on current driving record.
• CPR/AED Certification.
• Completion of the International Association Healthcare Security & Safety Basic Course and Examination is preferred within 1 year of employment.
