Job description

Job Summary

Provide support to Public Safety operations at Children’s Wisconsin facilities, including patrol, incident investigation, de‑escalation, weapon screening, and liaison with security departments.

Essential Functions
  • Patrol designated areas of facilities and grounds on foot according to schedule, investigating unusual occurrences.
  • Conduct parking enforcement duties, operating parking equipment, greeting and directing customers.
  • Investigate and write incident reports for security‑related incidents, obtain evidence, interview witnesses, victims, and suspects.
  • Assist Public Safety Dispatchers in the Communication Center, dispatch appropriate personnel, answer emergency line (88), monitor cameras and alarm systems, and respond to intercom and elevator calls.
  • Respond to a variety of emergency situations, including crowd control, disturbance resolution, verbal and physical intervention, firefighting duties, and combative or disruptive patients.
  • Perform Weapon Screening services at designated locations to prevent weapons from entering the property, secure property/evidence as directed, and liaise with campus Public Safety/Security and law enforcement.
  • Question or detain suspicious individuals or criminal violators on CW leased or owned properties, restraining individuals according to training standards.
  • Badge and screen visitors per the visitation policy, determine guest destinations, provide wayfinding, direct and escort employees, staff, visitors, clients, and patients.
  • Conduct traffic control functions and provide basic hospital information services at the Welcome Center.
  • Maintain current knowledge of CW policy, procedures, and Standards of Work through regular review of communications and attendance at relevant meetings.
Education
  • High School graduate, GED, or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
  • Post‑high school coursework in criminal justice or an equivalent field of study preferred.
Experience
  • 1+ year of customer service experience.
  • 1+ year of experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare security, public safety, corporate security, law enforcement, or military service.
  • 1+ year of experience performing weapon screening.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Complete all required introductory and annual competency training.
  • Read and write proficiently for incident reports and recordkeeping.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including PC software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Epic, CAD, incident reporting, surveillance systems, and weapon screening systems.
  • Analytical skills for inspecting, responding, and managing emergent situations, ensuring safety and security.
  • Pass Physical Capacity Exam (PCE) and maintain all training requirements in physical/verbal intervention, control technique programs, and use of security equipment.
  • Complete and maintain training in Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) and Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS).
  • In possession of or ability to obtain IAHSS Basic certification within 6 months of hire or promotion.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS – Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council) required within 90 days.
  • Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) certification required.
  • Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS) certification required within 3 months of hire or promotion.
