Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking Per Diem Security Officers to proactively monitor hospital grounds, respond to public safety calls, and support the dispatch center. The role requires familiarity with the hospital environment, 1 year of related experience, and readiness to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities include rounds, patrols, crisis de-escalation, and collaboration with local emergency services while maintaining a safe, patient‑focused environment.

Qualifications

• Thorough working knowledge of the hospital environment.
• Previous/current law enforcement and/or military experience preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a related role required.
• Ability to utilize a telephone, computer, communications and dispatch software.

Responsibilities

• Conducts proactive rounds to prevent safety hazards and deter crime.
• Responds to public safety calls and triages emergencies.
• Performs patient watches, rounds, and post assignments as directed.
• Provide coverage at the Switchboard, Communication and Dispatch Center.
• Liaises with hospital staff and local emergency services.
• Uses CCTV to identify and address safety concerns.
• De-escalates crises using verbal techniques and applies restraints if needed.
• Maintains a clean, organized post, equipment and vehicle.
• Supports customer-focused service for patients, visitors and staff.
• Per Diem Officers work at least 3 shifts per month including weekends and holidays.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Conducts proactive interior and exterior rounds to prevent, deter and identify potential criminal activity, identify safety concerns and public safety hazards.
• Responds to public safety calls for service and triages and addresses emergency situations.
• Performs a varying degree of patient watches and monitoring, rounding, parking lot audits and post assignments as directed by the Post Orders.
• Provide coverage at the Switchboard, Communication and Dispatch Center.
• Acts as a liaison between the hospital and local emergency services.
• Utilizes CCTV systems to identify, report and address public safety concerns.
• De-escalates crisis situations through verbal de-escalation techniques, when necessary effects physical restraints techniques.
• Actively contributes to a growing, high quality, community and customer service based safety program.
• Maintains a clean and organized post, equipment and vehicle and conducts basic cleaning when necessary.
• Supports the hospitals core values and mission by providing exceptional customer focused service for patients, visitors and staff.
• Per Diem Officers must work at least 3 shifts per month; 1 which is a weekend & 1 which is an overnight or shift coverage as needed. Per Diem Officers are also required to work 1 major summer holiday and 1 major winter holiday.

Education/Experience Required:

• Thorough working knowledge of the hospital environment.
• Previous/current law enforcement and/or military experience preferred
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a related role required.
• Ability to utilize a telephone, computer, communications and dispatch software.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Registration/Certification:

• Must obtain and maintain MA LTC within 6 months of employment
• Must maintain MA Driver’s License
• Must successfully Complete IAHSS Basic Security Office training within 60 Days of employment.
• Must obtain and maintain MOAB Certification within 3 months of employment. CPI or other may be substituted until training is offered by the organization.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.

Pay Range:

$20.80 - $26.49

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
