City of Chesapeake Virginia in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a Patrol Aide to support the Police Department's Operations. You will assist with traffic control at accidents, school crossings, and events, respond to disabled vehicles, and help with missing persons searches.

This full-time role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, US citizenship, and willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED / HSE.
• Must have a valid driver's license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
• Citizen of the United States.
• Conditional employment requirement to apply to sworn officer at age 20 1/2 or after cadet program for 2 years and 6 months.
• Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
• Employees work rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays, and may work beyond regular hours.

Responsibilities

• Assists sworn officers with traffic control at scenes of vehicle accidents.
• Directs and controls traffic at school crossings and special events.
• Responds to reports of disabled vehicles, assists motorists, and provides traffic control as needed.
• Completes phone reports and investigates abandoned vehicles.
• Collects evidence relating to minor property crimes as directed by a supervisor.
• Conducts searches for missing persons.
• Transports police department vehicles for maintenance and repairs.
• Assists with parking violations at locations without disorderly subjects on scene.
• Provides information and referrals to the public and other agencies.
• Prepares written reports, forms, and other documents as required.
• Attends training meetings and professional classes to improve skills.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
