Job summary

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District is seeking a Communications Specialist to promote positive public relations with the community and district staff. The role reports to the Chief of Communications & Information and is based in the Public Information Office.

The position involves producing district publications, coordinating media relations, and creating content for newsletters, the website, and social media.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field preferred.
• Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, parents or the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, internal and external.
• Thorough knowledge of media relations and public relations functions.
• Proficient in word processing and data analysis software.
• Familiar with Adobe Suite and Microsoft applications; quick to learn new software.
• Experience with audio/video equipment and desktop publishing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with production, publication, and distribution of district publications and news releases.
• Ensure public information activities support district goals and objectives.
• Take photographs/ video for district publications and events; record meetings.
• Design, prepare, and edit district publications including newsletters and programs.
• Write and edit stories for newsletters, website, and social media.
• Provide administrative support to the Chief of Communications and Technology.
• Contribute to the District website content and updates.
• Attend events outside normal hours with reliable transportation.
• Assist in coordinating District events and special projects.
