The Champaign County Forest Preserve District seeks a Public Programs Specialist in the Museum and Education Department. The role develops and implements cultural history programs for diverse audiences, coordinating with multiple sites and partners to advance the district’s mission.

Responsibilities include planning and evaluating programs, budgeting, recruiting volunteers, and ensuring excellent guest experiences at the Museum of the Grand Prairie. Flex hours and weekend work are expected.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, natural history, environmental studies, biology, education, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in planning, development, and implementation of interpretive/educational programming.
• Experience making programs accessible to a wide audience is preferred.
• Knowledge of Grand Prairie region flora and fauna preferred.

Aufgaben

• Coordinate with departments to develop public programs aligned with the museum’s interpretive plan and general mission.
• Plan, execute, and evaluate programs for all ages and backgrounds, including preschool, Scouts, library, and special events.
• Develop partnerships with local and national organizations to expand programming.
• Manage budgets and assist with annual budget recommendations.
• Recruit, train, and evaluate volunteers and volunteer-docents.
• Support guest experience, visitor safety, and center operations.
• Enforce safety rules and respond to incidents as needed.
