Easterseals-Goodwill seeks a Public Policy Director to develop, direct, and implement public policy strategies and advocacy efforts that benefit our organization, our participants and their families, and our employees.

Easterseals-Goodwill (ESGW) is a nonprofit organization that provides disability services, clinical services, behavioral health, early intervention, and workforce development programs in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. We operate Goodwill stores, donation sites, outlet, warehouses, and e-commerce in Montana, Idaho and Utah to provide job training and raise funds for ESGW programs. This position reports to the Vice President of Communications and works closely with the President/CEO as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and implementing organization-wide public policy strategies.
  • Researching and monitoring state and federal legislative activities that impact the organization and the people we serve.
  • Advocating for legislation that benefits the organization and aligns with our nonprofit mission and strategic plan.
  • Closely monitoring Montana, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming legislative sessions, and advocating and/or testifying at legislative hearings as needed.
  • Monitoring federal legislation in collaboration with our national affiliates (Goodwill Industries International and Easterseals Inc.) and the nonprofit sector, and advocating as needed.
  • Representing ESGW at, and participating in, local, state and/or national public policy work groups and/or committees, as it aligns with ESGW mission, strategic plan, and public policy goals.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with elected officials and their staff, executive branch officials, and advocacy groups in the state and federal public policy arena.
  • Working closely with the public policy offices and staff at Goodwill Industries International and Easterseals Inc. on policy issues affecting ESGW.
  • Keeping ESGW leadership staff, employees, and volunteers informed, including opportunities for public policy engagement.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years knowledge or experience in advocacy, nonprofit sector, and/or human services is not required, but helpful.
  • Bachelor's degree required. A degree in political science, public policy, history, economics, or related field is a plus.
  • Must live within our four-state region (Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah).
  • Travel within four-state region and to attend national affiliate public policy activities is required.
