Job summary

The Children’s Law Center seeks a Staff Attorney in New York to advocate zealously for children, handling a caseload from intake through trial in collaboration with paralegals, social workers and a writing unit. You will interview clients, appear in court, gather documentation, and maintain thorough case files.

Ideal candidates are admitted to the NYS bar with strong negotiation and litigation skills, capable of managing multiple tasks while upholding ethics; this is a hybrid role with in-person

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice law in New York State.
• Advocacy, cultural competence, mediation and interviewing skills.
• Commitment to public interest and policy.
• Knowledge of family court, custody, domestic violence, and child welfare.
• Experience collaborating to solve complex situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication, time management and organization.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients and other individuals.
• Attend court appearances.
• Gather documentation to prepare cases.
• Maintain organized case files in the case management system.
• Prepare cases for conferences, negotiations or trials.
• Develop legal strategy and evaluate case strengths and weaknesses.
• Collaborate with Writing, Social Work, Paralegal and Client Services teams.
• Communicate with the Court and opposing counsel.
• Maintain ethical standards of practice.
• Attend training sessions pertinent to practice.
• Perform other duties as requested.
