Job summary

The Public Interest Division of the Illinois Attorney General's Office seeks a Public Interest Fellow (limited term) to provide research and writing support in complex litigation. Open to recent law school graduates in their first three years of practice, including clerks, with Illinois Bar eligibility before starting the fellowship.

Fellowship begins August/September 2027 for 1–2 years, with potential for continued employment at the end of the term.

Qualifications

  • Recent law school graduates committed to public service.
  • Open to lawyers in first three years of practice, including clerks and current fellows.
  • Illinois Bar members or those planning to take the Illinois Bar before starting the fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Research and advise on complex or novel legal issues.
  • Participate in pre-litigation claims analysis and development.
  • Draft declarations, affidavits, and other evidentiary material for litigation.
  • Develop investigative and litigative strategies.
  • Interview witnesses and review evidence.
  • Coordinate with state agencies and attorney general staff from other states to develop and support litigation.
  • Handle or assist with drafting briefs and other court papers.
