Job summary

Ponca City Public Schools is seeking a Public Information Coordinator (Temporary) to inform the community about district activities and promote the district’s story. The role focuses on media relations, messaging, and content across websites and social platforms.

The position reports to the Superintendent and involves supervising high school interns, developing campaigns, and coordinating press communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field.
  • Computer skills including Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Internet and email.
  • Skills include use of websites, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and other social media.
  • Training in emerging social media platforms as needed.
  • Demonstrated effective presentation, collaboration, verbal and written skills are required.
  • Training or experience in communications with a variety of media preferred.
  • Will be required to assist and supervise High School interns in the creation of social media content.
  • The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to some of the listed qualifications.

  • Coordinate proactive outreach to local and state media, ensuring coverage aligns with district goals and values.
  • Develops and updates the District’s crisis communication plan.
  • Develops public relations strategies and actions for effective communications about the district and district initiatives.
  • Supervise a team of high school student interns, guiding them to produce high-quality, age-appropriate digital content across platforms.
  • Collaborate with staff districtwide to generate and post timely videos, photos, and written content for social media and district websites.
  • Oversee all district and school websites and mobile apps, ensuring they are current, functional, and aligned with communication goals.
  • Manage district-wide app push notifications and email blasts for timely parent updates.
  • Plans and oversees budget for the Public Information Department.

Job Goal: Informs the community of school district activities, information, and accomplishments to effectively promote the district. Helps communicate district objectives and goals. Works with Administrators to tell the District’s story.


Employment Terms: Temporary Contract; 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., exclusive of a lunch. Position will be ended January 8 th . Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications


FLSA Classification: Exempt


Evaluation: Annually by Superintendent

Occasional Requirements: Ability to administer CPR, Walk, reach withhands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 25 pounds


Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Takes photographs for press releases, brochures, etc. to promote the district.

  • Arranges for all press conferences and prepares information for distribution to reporters covering Board meetings and public hearings.

  • Coordinates the planning, production, and distribution of district publications, internal and external. (newsletters, brochures, fliers, etc.)

  • Designs, develops, and maintains an extensive website for the Superintendent, administration, Board of Education, news and events, district information, etc.

  • Posts all news releases and photographs on district website.

  • Develops publications and other ways to positively promote the district.

  • Designs and prepares ads presented by the Board.

  • Designs presentations for many special projects.

  • Publicizes the Teacher of the Year information and events. (photos, Power Point Presentations, news releases, speeches, programs, etc.)

  • Plans and oversees Back-to-School Programs. (photos, decorations, Power Point Presentations, news releases, programs, etc.)

  • Coordinates the production and distribution of all district news releases.

  • Develop positive working relationships with local business leaders, civic groups, and media professionals to enhance the district’s visibility.

  • Stays abreast of professional practices in the field of public relations through participation in state and national associations.

  • To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

  • Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.


Position Type: Full-Time


Salary: $18.95 Per Hour
