New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) seeks Special Officers to ensure security, safety, and loss prevention across NYC facilities. You will supervise operations and maintain order in a demanding, public health environment.

The role requires Peace Officer designation and a four-year high school diploma, with opportunities across two shifts and potential overtime as per the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
• Individuals designated as Peace Officers and meeting NYS training requirements are eligible to serve in this title.

Responsabilités

• Respond to emergency incidents.
• Maintain heightened security at key locations and secure other Health Department facilities throughout NYC.
• Patrol unstaffed locations.
• Complete complaint and incident reports.
• Conduct interior and exterior patrols of DOHMH facilities.
• Perform physical activities outdoors in all kinds of weather; walk or stand during tours; assist in restraining individuals if needed.
• Carry or wear heavy equipment and bullet resistant vest.
• Work various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays; rotating tours or overtime as required.
