Job summary

Suffolk County is seeking a Public Health Sanitarian Trainee under the HELP program to perform elementary environmental health duties while in supervised training. You will assist in enforcing the Public Health Law and county codes as you advance toward becoming a qualified Sanitarian.

On-the-job training is provided with progressive responsibilities; completion of BEHC within two years is required to obtain permanent status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with federally-authorized accreditation or NY State registration and 30 science credits (not more than 12 in applied sciences).
• Valid NYS driver's license required at appointment and during employment.

Responsibilities

• Participates in inspection of food establishments, including restaurants, delis, mobile units, schools and temporary food events.
• Collects water, food and other samples for laboratory examination.
• Prepares and submits reports on investigations and field inspections.
