Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage seeks an experienced communications leader to manage public information and outreach for the Anchorage Health Department. This executive role coordinates with the Mayor’s office and partners to promote public health programs and respond during emergencies.

Responsibilities include planning long-range publicity, directing media relations, and overseeing messaging for departmental initiatives while ensuring compliance with city policies and state regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 9 years in news media/public relations.
• Associate degree with 7 years in news media/public relations.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years in news media/public relations.
• Master’s degree with 3 years in news media/public relations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform public information and outreach activities for AHD and communicate with the media regarding public/community-based events involving the Department, including in the event of a public health emergency.
• Determine information needs and interests, plan, prepare, implement and promote a comprehensive, long-range program of publicity and promotion to keep the public informed of departmental programs, activities, policies and services.
• Coordinate efforts with the Mayor and Municipal Manager's offices, as well as with SOA, AHD and other partners.
