Job summary

City of Bismarck is seeking an Engagement Officer to disseminate public information across the website and social media, ensuring content aligns with the city’s values and mission. You will engage residents, staff, boards, and partners to inform and connect with the community.

Responsibilities include developing campaigns, monitoring feedback, coordinating with media, supporting emergency communications, tracking KPIs, and preparing presentations for City Commissioners and departments.

Qualifications

• Understanding of website, content management and social media platforms.
• Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility with evolving technology and task lists.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• One to two years of relevant experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Commitment to continuing education (FEMA, TEEX, EMI, CDP).
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Familiarity with municipal government operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and campaigns.
• Monitor and respond to user comments to foster an active community.
• Manage social media, websites, and other content channels.
• Liaise with news media; pitch stories and coordinate interviews.
• Provide support during emergencies and assist with crisis communications.
• Track KPIs and analyze data to inform city projects and inquiries.
• Prepare communications and presentations for City Commissioners and departments.
• Support internal and external city communications and event promotion.
