Wisconsin State Public Defender in Madison is seeking a dedicated Paralegal to support attorneys in the SPD Trial Office and contribute to high-quality, indigent defense services.

You will help prepare legal documents, manage office tasks in Microsoft 365, and communicate effectively with clients and staff in a diverse environment. This full-time public service role offers strong benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Preparing legal documents (e.g. drafting, editing, proofreading and formatting letters, motions, briefs, etc.)
• Working with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace products (e.g. word processing, database entry, email, scheduling, spreadsheets, etc.)
• Effective oral, written, and communication skills
• Working in a professional environment with people from different ethnic, cultural, political, economic and religious backgrounds
• Paralegal work in a government agency or law firm
• Working with the criminal juvenile, and/or mental health legal systems

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and support to attorneys appointed to provide legal services.
• Assist in preparing and processing legal documents and case files.
• Support office operations and maintain organized records.
